- The prefer logic order can now be changed
V1.5 released on 30th of May 2013
Improvements:
- Supports now the order of how photos are marked as rejected. It is possible to prefer photos in RAW format, by size and by rating.
V1.4 released on 2nd of May
Improvements:
- Allows now the comparison of file size, name and type
- The capture time can now be deselected

Bug fixes:
- Collection creation in combination with the clean up option caused an error. This is fixed.
- The ignore keywords checkbox was not recognized. This is fixed.
Improvements:
- Integrates now ExifTool to get more details about the photos. Sequential shootings tend to produce duplicates because of the time resolution based on seconds. Now Teekesselchen can read data, which is not provided by Lightroom itself, e.g. the sub-second or the sequence number.
V1.2 released on 13th of March
Fixes the "pickStatus" bug for users running a Lightroom version < 4.
V1.1 released on 19th of Feb
Bug fixes:
- Ignore keywords caused an execution error. This is fixed.
- The help link on the About tab referenced a wrong page. This is fixed.
- The summary page used the term smart folder. This has been changed to the right term smart collection.
Improvements:
- Prior clean up of the duplicate smart collection. If activated this collection shows duplicates from the last run only.
V1.0 released on 6th of Feb

Excellent job!
I suggest you also provide the ability to choose files having same filenames because, by using a 1 second resolution as you are currently doing, everytime I shoot in continuous mode (6 fps), I get plenty of false duplicate. Thank you.
Hi Stephan,
thanks for you comment. I will see what I can do for you.
Hi Stephan,
I released a new version today. From my point of view it is not a good idea to take the file name. In my catalogs I use the date to organize the directory structure. If two files have the same time stamp then they will be placed into same directory and cannot have the same name.
To make a long story short. The plugin now uses ExifTool to extract more data, e.g. the sequence number and the sub-second. Now photos from continuous shootings shoulded be marked as duplicates. Please try it out and share your experiences with us.
Hello, I have downloaded on Max OS and installed but it doesn't appear to be in the directory you have in your notes. There is no plug-in subdirectory. Any idea what I can do to find it?
Hi Alexander,
which one did you try? The zip or the installer? If you are using the zip then you can choose a directory of your choice and select it afterwards in Lightroom. If you are using the installer then you just have to activate the plugin in Lightroom.
In some cases i have a JPG and CR2 of the same image, and the dup finds seems to select the jpg as a duplicate. Is there a way to finter this to keep both formats?
Hi Colin,
thanks for this idea, I will add it as an option to the next release.
At the moment you can use the ExifTool option to avoid duplicates from different file formats. Just go to the Rules tab, activate the ExifTool option and add the followin tag to the parameters text field:
-FileType
Now you should get the desired result.
Please take a look at version 1.4. It supports file types now.
I have run this plug in against a database of 62826 photographs that were merged from 2 MACS and 2 PC's and a USB drive with the intention of trying to establish a single source for backup. The file types are TIF, JPG, CR2, PSD and a limited number of DNG's.
My work flow was as follows:
Merge the photographs from their various sources into a structure that was Year->Month
Create a subset of 20 photographs of various types with known results
Run FindDuplicates against the subset and adjust the criteria within the plug in until you get the results you expect
Run FindDuplicates against a month of photographs and do a detailed visual check
Delete the duplicates at each stage
Run FindDuplicates against the whole database
I conduct a visual check at each stage.
I expected my 62000 photographs to distil to about 19000 and I am in that region now.
I haven't deleted the sources yet but that will be my next move when I'm satisfied with where I am.
Update on workflow:
I've found that some of the cameras (or the software used to import the pictures) do not import all of the metadata. It's OK if you use Lightroom or Digital Photo Professional from Canon (I haven't tried the Nikon equivalent) coupled with well known makes such as Canon, Nikon and Panasonic but the very cheap digitals from the likes of Tesco and other supermarkets seem to create unpredictable results. This not a criticism Teekesselchen, it can only process the data to hand and in some of the circumstances above, it just isn't there. I still use the workflow below but I now do it one camera at a time and the results are far more predictable.
This is true. The quality of the result depends on the quality of the available meta-data. If you have inconsistent or corrupted meta-data in your photos then you can use the file size or name. But results from these parameters are usually not the best.
The latest v. 1.5 does a nice job addressing my concern: it allows the JPEGs to be flagged as "Rejected" (while the "duplicate" RAW files are kept). Thanks.
Hello Michael,
this looks like an awesome plugin that will help me clean up my mess of a collection easily. I have downloaded the installer for Windows and installed it. When opening the plugin in Lightroom I found some checkboxes unavailable on the Marks tab. After pressing the Reset to Default button some checkboxes became available, but one stayed grayed out.
See http://www.geregel.nl/tixus... for screenshots.
Did I miss something in the manual or should the plugin not do this? Thanks for your advice.
Hello Mark,
thank you very much for your question. The short answer is: you cannot use the option "Mark duplicates as rejected". The reason is your current version of Lightroom. This function is only available in the SDKs for version 4.x or higher. What does this mean to you. After the run-trhough you have to mark the duplicates by hand (select the photo and push 'x' on your keyboard) if you want to remove them from your catalog. You should keep at least one photo! For example, if you see the same photo three times, then you should select only 2.This is not that bad because you should always double-check the results before you remove photos. All other functions are available in version 3.x!
If you do not see the duplicates in seqences (all photos are next to each other) then you should experiment a little bit with the sorting.
Best
Michael
I understand, thank you very much. I have been thinking about moving to Lightroom 4, now I have a pretty good reason.
Thank you for the quick reply,
Regards,
Mark.
michael, i tried it. i'm afraid it's the same error, tom
Almost worked but found duplicates that were not duplicates due to time being less then 1 second so I enabled exittool for sub-seconds and it now fails with the message that an internal error has occured, [string "Teekesselchen.lua"]:75: attempt to index local 'header' (a nil value)
Hi Jeff,
are you using Windows or OS X? I will fix this tomorrow.
Thanks,
Michael
Hi Tom,
still working on it. I try my best to organize it along with my real job.
Thanks
Michael
OS X
Hi Jeff,
I found the bug and will definitly release a new version tomorrow. I will send you message when its done.
Thank you very much for your support!
Michael
Great! Many thanks. Look forward to giving it a try!
You can now download the latest version. I will update the documentation by the end of this week.
Hi Michael,
Great plugin, this was what I was looking for. I made a few changes:
Changed RAW to DNG, I work with DNG so this works better for me.
Changed the filename to strip the extension and compare on basename only. If I want to look for extension, I can search on filetype as well.
There is a bug in the Virtual copy section at line 179. Send me a message if you want a copy with my modifications.
Regards,
Michel.
Hi Michael,
thanks for your suggestions. And yes, I am interested in your changes. Please forge the project on GIThub or send an email to me.
Thanks
Michael
I have placed a version with some comments on GIThub.
Have a look and use it to fix the virtual copy bug.
Regarding the base file name or raw it is based on personal preference. I think the base file name is more useful but for the prefer raw there is a more clever solution needed (prefer raw over dng over lossy dng over etc..)
regards,
Michel.
I just ran the revised download and it unfortunately failed at the very end of LR 3 with 57,000 images. I got an error message and when I clicked OK the window went away. I'd like to try again. any suggestions for success is appreciated. Thank you for making this available, Doug
Although I thought I downloaded the most current version yesterday. I just checked and learned that there is a newer version. I downloaded that, confirmed that I have the most current version and now I'm starting over. Currently on 567 photos. On my way to 57,000+.
Hi Doug,
could you please make a screenshot or send me the error message the next time. This would help me a lot!
Thanks
Michael
Hi Michael, I downloaded V1.6.1 and am using it with Lightroom 3. When I search my folder for duplicates, it runs through the search and at the end it throws up the following error.:- An internal error has occured: LrPhoto:setRawMetadata: unknown metadata key "pickstatus". Any ideas how to get round this?
Regards,
Paul
Hi Paul,
thank you very much for your message. Looks like you have found a bug. Please download either http://www.bungenstock.de/t... for Windows or http://www.bungenstock.de/t... for Mac. Please give me a short notice if it works for you.
Thanks Michael
Hi Michael,
I downloaded V1.6.2 and tested it out. It is working fine now. Thanks for the very quick response.
Regards,
Paul
Hello Michael
I hve LR 5.2 with V1.6.1 am assuming the grey photos are the dupes? I shoot raw/jpeg and it appears to mark 2 jpeg 1 raw as dupes and leave me with 1 raw. I would like it to leave 1raw 1 jpeg is this possible. Also after running if I choose to do nothing how do you reset the greyed out pictures? many thanks...
Hello Brian,
Lightroom greyes out the rejected photos. If you want to remove it then select all the photos in the Duplicates folder and hit the key U. This will unflag your selection.
In order to keep 1 raw and 1 jpeg you should search for duplicates in the jpeg files. Use the Text filter on all photos and select "File Name" and "Ends With", type in jpg. Only the jpeg files should remain. Open Teekesselchen and use it as usually.
Best
Michael
Hi Michael,
just tried your plugin but the option "file size" seems not to be working - at least not for me. I combined this criterion with the standard criteria already set, but as a result I got duplicates which definitely had differnet file size (checked by Windows exploerer). (Version 1.6.1 with LR 5.3 RC)
Claudio
Hi Claudio,
I took a look at the code and perhaps it has something to do how Lightroom formats the different sizes. Tomorrow I can provide an update.
Thanks
Michael
Hi Michael,
I just checked the alternative approach to distinguish photos within a series by exiftool - this isn't working either for my photos. Both tried the original Settings as well as exiftool -SubSecDateTimeOriginal.
Some of the duplicates are jpegs which is ok, since they don't have Sub seconds, but many of them are raws which really have different Sub seconds but still are shown as duplicates - when I run exiftool from comman line I clearly can see the different Sub seconds. Maybe it's an issue with LR 5.3 RC, never checked with an earlier LR Version.
Claudio
Any news on this issue? LR 5.3 final has been released, so in case my speculation is correct, many users might be affected in the future.
Hi Claudio,
thanks for your comment and sorry for my late reply. I tested the new version (5.3) on OS X 10.9 and Windows 7 and I am not able to reproduce your issue. In other words: it is still working for me. Could you please provide me 2 of your photos which should have the required meta-data (different sub seconds). This would help me a lot.
Thanks
Michael
Hi Michael,
unfortunately, I cannot reproduce the problem with the original photos, since I converted all cr2 files to dng files in the meanwhile.
However, after some testing with just 6 freshraw photos there seem to be good news- it seems to be working now (more testing for final verification needed which I will only be able to do at the beginning of next week)
One observation, possibly explaining the original problem: I had several versions of exiftool installed on my laptop in different directories. When I did the command line check last time, I used a local copy with the newest version and it did show the correct subseconds. However, with an older version in a different directory, no subseconds where shown but instead an error message concerning incompatible firmware version (newest 5D mark iii firmware) was shown.
I deleted this old exiftool version and at the moment your tool seems to work both for the dng and some fresh raw photos (cr2).
Could it be that your plugin was somehow accessing this old exiftool version installed on my laptop and hence could not evaluate the sub seconds?
Sorry for any confusion.
Claudio
Michael,
Also having the pickStatus problem with V1.6.1. Tried to download 1.6.2 and update the files in the Adobe module directory (running LR 3.2 on Windows 7). LR says the version is now 1.6.2 but am still having the problem. What am I missing?
Thanks.
David,
please download the latest version 1.7. Lightroom 3.x does not support this functionality. Take a look at the response I sent to Darrell.
Thanks
Michael
The upgrade to 1.7 was successful, thanks. Am pondering an upgrade to LR 5 for easier sort.
I have several hundred duplicates in my library. Is there a way to select all images with the _x label suffix (to mass export)? I see how to do it one image at a time.
Thank you for the excellent support.
Hm, good question. There is no way to sort the labels by name. If you want to play it safe then export all photos.
I will see what I can do for you in the next release.
Thanks
Michael
OSX Mavericks won't let me open the installer after download. Error Message says it from an "unknown developer"
The installer is not signed and you have restricted security settings (that is not too bad). Open the System Preferences, click on the Security & Privacy icon and select Anywhere for "Allow apps downloaded from" (you need admin rights for this). Open the installer and reset the security settings after the successfull installation. The installer itself does not need admin rights, thus, you should not expect any harmful code.
Hi, I downloaded and installed the software. It is enabled and running in the plugin manager, but I don't get any plugin extras options to run the software. I'm on a mac with mavericks and lightroom 5.4. What am I doing incorrectly? Thanks, Nicole
Hi, I am running the same version on Mac and it works. Go to a collection, e.g. All Photographs, and select the first photo. Then move the mouse to the top and select Library > Plug-In Extras from the menu. There you can start the plug-in.
Cheers
Michael
Could you post this to Adobe Add-ons please? You just need to set up an account at http://adobeexchange.com/pr...
Thanks,
Jonathan Ferman | Adobe Add-ons Product Manager
I just ran this app on LR 5.6 on 51,374 photos. Impressive speed! It returned 13,555 duplicates. Also impressive. But my problem is, that with so many it is impossible to see whether it is safe to delete them all, as the dupes are not always with the originals to compare. While generally I want to delete the dupes, I do not always - for instance where I have created a greetings card out of a photo by adding text or photoshopping. The problem is the same whether I choose to display the photos by file name, capture date, edit date, etc. Is there some way the duplicates and originals can always be shown together? Otherwise it is like playing the world's largest game of Pelmanism!
Hi,
I've just finished using the app on my photo catalog, and I think (not certain) that it has left a plethora of metadata labels of the format (TK#_baa_x) on each photo in the catalog.
Are these labels an artifact of the app? If so, how to I eliminate them?
thanks
chris
Hi,
you used the option "Abuse color labels for sorting" on the Marks tab. If you take a look at the tutorial then you should find a section on this topic. In order to remove the labels just select all affected photos and open the context menu. There you should find a color label item (at the moment I only have a German version and don't know the exact translation), which allows the selection of a color or no color. Select no color and the labels are gone.
Cheers
Michael
Hi,
I've installed the Add On and I see it "Installed and Running" in the Lightroom plugin manager, but I don't see it in File -> Plugin Extras.
Hi,
did you activate the plugin? If yes, could you please send a screenshot of the plugin manager to my email address.
Cheers
Michael
I too have just installed your app for Lightroom 3. Cannot find it under 'Plugin Extras'. attached is a screen print of the plugin ,manager.
Hi Bob,
the image is not available. Could you please send it to my email address.
Thanks
Michael
Feature request: compare filenames case insensitive.
I have managed to import duplicates because of file names with different case. Any chance to enhance the filename compare feature to support case insensitive compare?
Hi. Will this work with Lightroom CC 2015 .01? Thanks.
Never mind. It works. :-)
Thank you very much for your answer!
Wow, just amazing. The quality in this is far above any plugin I have used. Everything from documentation, to functionality, ease of use, and in-plugin updates. donated! Great job! Thanks!
Just curious is there any roadmap for creating a feature to de-duplicate photos that have different names? (e.g. photo1.jpg is same as photo1-2.jpg).
Hi Ambient711, thank you very much for your support, much appreciated. Regarding the name: Take a look at the Rules tab. If the checkbox for File Name is selected then you must unselect it. The plug-in should then ignore the file names.
Great tool, but in the results I have 7 photos that don't match anything in the Duplicates folder. Should it even be possible to have an odd number in the smart folder?
Hi JayT,
yes, this result is possible. Reason for that is equal meta-data in your photos. The plug-in does not take a look at the images but meta-data like the date, time, camera etc. If images from different sources have equal data then they look like duplicates.
Is the latest version compatible with Lightroom 6?
Yes it is. If you have any issues, please let me know.
Thanks Michael.
Hi, I have the plug in enabled in /Application Support/Adobe/Lightroom/Modules/ It is visible in the plug in manager, but it is not in the plug in extras and I can't find a way to access it. On Macbook Pro running El Capitan. Any suggestions much appreciated. Thanks, David
Hi David,
please make sure that you activate it in the plug in manager. Select you library and you should find the plug-in at the bottom of the Library menu.
Best
Michael
Hi. Just tried to used your app to find duplicates in LR 6.3 (mac) and I ran into an issue where lots of pics that don't have any duplicates are marked as dupes anyway. I ran the plugin from the All Photos tab. There are only 754 photos in that catalog so I am a little surprised of the issues I didn't even have in bigger catalogs. The settings for Teekesselchen are the default. Any idea on what could have gone wrong ? Or what I should try or check ? Thanks
Hi, the amount of found duplicates depends on the meta-data of your pictures and the settings. It does not depend on the number of photos in your catalog, I have almost 20,000 with no duplicates. Please take a look at the rules tab and check the available options. I recommend to activate the options which you can see here: http://www.bungenstock.de/t... If the result does not match your expectations, then you have perhaps a problem with sequential shootings. In this case activate the ExifTool in order to distinguish them from duplicates. The documentation should help you with the details. Best
Hi. I have a serious problem. I am trying to fix MS outlook Business contact manager, which is essential to me but now causing MS outlook to crash.. I have downloaded from MS site the latest files but whenever i launch it, it has the correct MS certificates but then ... the whole installer switches to Teekesselchen and says do i want to install v1.8. NO! Please tell me how i get rid of your software absolutely - where are the install files kept and what are they called please? How is it possible that your software can divert MS installers for their own products?? I am running MS Windows 8.1. Thank you.
To be honest, this sounds very strange and I have no explanation. The setup program puts all files to C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Lightroom\Plugins\, but I cannot imagine how this can affect your installer. I would double check the website where you have downloaded the MS software and try it again.
Thanks for your quick reply. I removed the plugin and then deleted every 'teek' file i could find in my machine last night. looking again today, i cant see any folder or files in the location you mention now. I did find teekesselchen_exif.tmp in appdata/local, the zip install files in downloads, and a 'com.adobeexchange.teekessel... long number' which was a ZPX file 5955Kb (vs 5992 for the ZIP). It was a virtual product in appdata but i cant see the path - i took a photo.
I seem to have got MS BCM working again but it took a while..... I checked the download files and they are MS certified and i even checked the MD5... all OK. I have no explanation either....
Are there other registry files i should delete? - I have done regedit for t/Teekesselchen, Find Duplicates, but didn't find anything.
thanks.
I am using Lightroom cc 2015.4
After running duplicate I attempted to delete rejected photos and got an error: 7.0: attempt to index a nil value.
Then on another run, It deleted all photos in the folder, flagged and unflagged.
Looks like your catalogue file has been corrupted. The plug-in itself just changes the meta information of your photos but never deletes images or changes the catalogue structure. I would check the file system of the hard discs. If you encounter problems or warnings then I would create a new catalogue, or better, would restore on of the latest backups.
Just to make one point clear. I don't think that the plug-in itself lead to these problems, it seems to be a more general problem with your catalogue file,e.g. caused by crash or a hardware defect.
I just downloaded the software. It installed fine but its results are very un-predictable. It seems to choose ("mark as dup" funkction) what image is the duplicate pretty much at random, which essentially renders it useless (for me).
Am I missing something obvious here?
I tried to apply several filters, like "prefer short name" or the opposite "prefer long name". Its still "hit & miss" at random... -I expected it be able to mark the same filname-schemes but just what files it deems as duplicates seem to be random, or possibly "1st match".
I would donate money if I could get reliable results, filtering on filename.
All in all, it seems fine but imho it lacks the most important feature of all: filtering based on filename. Is it not possible?
I am trying to find any duplicate photos with *almost* the same name, ie img_xxxx.jpg VS img_xxxx-2.jpg (as well as img_XXXX-3.jpg etc). I only care for the "original filename", ie "img:xxxx.jpg". All else I know to be copies.
How do I go about to get the plugin to search, find, and reliably mark all files that is not the "preferred orginal name" scheme...? There are options for marking the duplicates in the 2nd tab of the plugin, but regardless of my choices there, the resulting marked files seems to be pretty much random. Can email screendumps.
I am not sure if this plug-in is the right choice for your problem. It uses the meta data of the images to identify the duplicates. The options of the Marks tab help to improve the sorting of the result. If you want to improve the result itself, you can use the options of the Rules tab. The more options you activate the smaller should be the groups of duplicates. Try ExifTool, it often helps with continuous shootings.
This plug-in does not use file names or patterns in file names to identify duplicates and I don't have plans to implement such functionality.
Depending on your operation system, Windows or Mac, I would use the command line or would search for a specific file manager supporting regular expressions.
Well... the way I see it, your software just do parts of what it promises then. It still doesn't provide a valid solution that automates the removal of unwanted duplicates. Just finding duplicates is something that loads of other software does. Including, but not limitied to, built in search enginges in the OS, as well as built in commandline software, like PowerShell (for Windows). The only difference between your piece of software and those tools seem to be that yours integrate with Lightroom - but that is about it really, isn't it?
I mean, there is NO way of choosing what files/photos to keep (filtering duplicates)...? Or am I missing something? Seems it doesn't provide anything useful at all then... -honestly, I am a bit disappointed. :-(
Then again, i didn't pay anything, so no harm done.
It WOULD be an EXCELLENT tool though - which I'd happily pay a fee for or donate - if there was a way to filter what duplicates to keep / deem as "original" and which ones to get rid of (ie, "copies"). THEN it would actually provide good value. As of now, the end result is MANUAL work, which I am trying to avoid. :-)
Best way, imho, to accomplish the regex expr to use would be to allow me as a user to click on the "original" name to keep and have the software mark all of those as "originals" (ie, mark every photo not matching the name pattern as "rejected"). That would be easy and fast. Second approach would be to specify a "duplicate" name, such as "*-2.jpg" or "*-*.ext" as duplicate (to be marked as "rejected"). :-)
I am trying to uninstall your duplicate plugin in WIndows 10 and move it to a dedicated lrplugin directory from Modules where it is now.
The Remove button in the Lightroom Plugin Manager is greyed out.
I went to the Windows 10 control panel and deleted the program.
The Lightroom Plugin Manager now says it is installed but not working.
I was also trying to remove some other older plugins and came upon the same behaviour except that there is no program in the Control Panel to remove.
Can you provide some guidance?
Hi there, I want to know if this plugin will also work with Lightroom 6.
Cheers.
Hi Peter,
yes it does.
Best
Michael
Hello Michael,
I tried to run OVM on a raspberry pi 3, but it cannot get an ip address on the eth0 connection. Cable and all is connected. I noticed during boot a LSB message that took a long time to finish.
I used the latest version.
Any idea what's wrong?
Cheers, Peter
the plugin is greyed out, and can't figure out how to get it working.
Michael,
Please help me out here. I understand the concept of filters. however I have multiple case of files of identical metatags or with with one or two minor differences in non-selected areas cause them not to be highlighted as duplicates. Can you help me understand why so I can fix my filter?
If you want I can provide examples: copy name and metadata status being different all others metatags (file size, dimensions, aperture, camera, timestamp etc are identical) yet the file is not identified as duplicate.
can you suggest what am I doing wrong?
best regards,
Dimitris
to give a specific example. when selecting two pictures running a set of rules one of them is marked as rejected and both as duplicate. selecting 20 pictures that contain those 2 (and not a third one identical to those two) will mark both as duplicate and both as Rejected. can you help?
Hi Micheal,
I am on a new Mac running LR6 - and imported a pile of photos from my Mac Photo library - which as a lot of duplicates. I am trying to use your application, I download and ran the installer, it said complete, but does not tell me where the extensions were put. If I start LR6 and go to the Plug In Manager, your plug-in does not make the list, and when I open the dialog to add the plug-in, I do not know what directory your plug-in has been put by the installer. Any guidance here? Many thanks!
Usually the install works. However, you can try the zip file:
1. Download the latest ZIP file http://www.bungenstock.de/t...
2. Extract the ZIP file, e.g. to your desktop
3. Move the file teekesselchen.lrplugin to
OS X: ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Lightroom/Plugins/
4. Start Lightroom
5. Click on File > Plug-in Manager in the menu
6. Click on the Add button in the lower left corner and select teekesselchen.lrplugin
7. Click on Done and your are done
Thanks Micheal. I managed to get the plug-in to work, but not exactly sure how given my multiple attempts. The directory you supplied "/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Lightroom/Plugins/" does not exist, on my machine with a purchased copy of LR is seems to be "/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe/Lightroom/Modules/" - I think the installer put it in there.
Anyways, sorry another question. I am detecting duplicates, but am getting the "wrong" photos flagged for delete (I want the other one of the pair), so am changing the settings on the plugin to flag the correct photos. Duplicate photos in separate directories. I know which directory I want to delete the duplicates from, so I made the path to that directory long, and flagged the plugin to prefer short pathnames. It did not seem to work, but I could be using it wrong. A few questions:
- the "preferred" photo is the one not flagged a rejected?
- the "path" is the number of characters in the complete path from the root of the disk?
Anyways, many thanks, this plugin is awesome!
Cheers,
Mike
Mike,
it is not /Library but ~/Library. The ~ means your home directory. Thus, you can use /Users/Mike/Library/... instead of the tilde (this is the name of ~).
Best
Michael
Hallo Michael,
Michael
Hello,
I have downloaded and followed the instructions to install the plugin.
But I can't see in Plug-in Extras.
Running latest LR CC and Sierra 10.12.3.
Have tried to remove and reinstall the plug-in and restarted both LR and iMac several times.
Please help.
Hi Per,
Did you try the zip file? Please take a look at ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Lightroom/Plugins/ Do you see the plug-in directory there? If not then copy the content of the zip to this directory.
By the way, I am running the same combination.
I have done all of this and still do not see the plug in in Plug in Extras. It shows in Manager and that it is Enabled. Please advise.
In the Plug-in Extras it states - None Defined
Just a heads up, Michael, that I plan to talk about this plugin during a webinar on Saturday (http://laurashoe.com/2017/0..., so you may get higher than normal activity over the weekend.
FYI, I was in Laura Shoe's webinar and learned about your tools. I (twice) tried to download the duplicate finder and each time my MacBook Pro showed a little popup in the downloads toolbar at the bottom of my Chrome browser that told me that:
“This kind of file can harm your computer. Are you sure you want to proceed? Discard, Cancel” And, when I looked for Teekesselchen in the File/Plugin Manager… it did not appear.
You are downloading an executable file, this is the reason why chrome warns you. Either you use a different browser, like Safari or you do a manual installation with the ZIP file. The instructions at the top of this page describe the details.
Hi Michael, I'm getting reports from some folks who were in my webinar that Norton doesn't like the plugin. Do you have any comment on this? Thank you.
Hi Laura, the setup.exe is not signed and maybe Norton does not like it. If someone does not feel comfortable with this false alarm then I recommend the manual installation with the ZIP file.
Hello Eric,
the plugin-in does not delete collections or photos. It just marks duplicates and changes labels (this is a function you have to activate).
No software is free of bugs, but you are the first one reporting this behavior and thousand of users didn't have this problem. Thus, I guess you deleted your collections by accident.
Hi!
This duplicate remover seems to work well. Some dups are a result of choosing RAW+JPEG so it's nice to quickly clean up, saving space. Some dups did not clean up and appear to result from the iPhone Live feature which creates a pic and a movie. It would be great to eliminate duplicate movies since there are double dups for Live pics. Filters to select duplicate Live .mov files would be great.
Hi Michael, I'm using LR Classic on a Windows PC. When I check the Plug-in Manager I can see that it believes that Teekesselchen is installed and working. However it isn't showing in either location of the plug-in extras. The one under the "help" drop down menu in the library module shows "None Defined". It also isn't visible in the "File" drop down menu plug-in extras. Have you any thoughts on what is wrong?
UPDATE:-
Sorry Michael, I've now found the plugin. The plug-in is working and available under the "Library" drop down menu in the Library Module.
I didn't notice that there are three plug-in extras locations. But that in itself seems strange to me why three, I shall ask about the three locations on a Lightroom forum.
I think there may be a version discrepancy in the downloads provided?
Here is what I did:
1. Downloaded zip version and added via Lightroom plugin manager
2. Ran without ExifTool checked, but got burst shots identified as duplicates (all Canon RAW shots, converted to DNG)
3. Ran with ExifTool checked, and still got burst shots identified as duplicates
4. Noticed that ExifTool was not installed, so installed this via homebrew. Confirmed that by command line, ExifTool -SubSecTime returns different values for two photos in a burst shot identified as duplicates
5. Ran with ExifTool checked, and still got burst shots identified as duplicates
6. Uninstalled exiftool from homebrew, and then installed the MacOS installer.
7. MacOS installer seemed to not copy teekesselchen.lrplugin to ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Lightroom/Plugins. Instead, it was in ~/private/tmp for both an admin and a non-admin account on MacOS 10.13.1.
8. Manually copied teekesselchen.lrplugin from ~/private/tmp to ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Lightroom/Plugins
9. Added plugin through Lightroom plugin manager and it correctly did not identify burst shots as duplicates with ExifTool checked.
Here's the weird thing: Then I noticed that the plugin file provided in the zip file is 15.7MB (15,677,249 bytes), while the version in the Mac installer package is 10.6MB (10,580,988 bytes). Both are dated 1/25/14.
It seems perhaps there is an issue with the zip version on Mac?
Hi Michael, I noticed that your pages don't say at this point that your plug-in is compatible with Lightroom Classic. Have you found any issues with it?
Hi Laura,
Lightroom Classic is supported, too. No issues are known.
Thank you, Michael.
My Symantec anti-virus software is identifying your program as an unsafe file and refusing to let my computer download it. You might want to take this up with them.
This might happen when you use the installer. The binaries are not signed and some anti-virus aps don't like that. The alternative way is to install the zip-file with the plug-in manager.
Thanks, Michael -
I'm using LR5 and Windows 10 so I didn't have the same path as the one given in the notes but I found a way to get it installed.
So far, it looks great!
Gretchen
Hey! Awesome plug in! Thank you so much for making this!! There are two improvements that would be really cool...maybe these are already built in and I don't know how to utilize them. 1) The option to not see different file types as duplicates. For instance, my original is a RAW, but my final is often a PSD. These are showing as dupes right now and I want to retain both copies. If I have two RAW of the same file, I want to mark it but if I have a RAW and a PSD, I want those to be seen as different. 2) A status bar that says the plug-in is launching. Right now, it takes a long time for the initial window to launch so I'm left wondering if I actually clicked the bottom.
Download and install flawless. Ran a couple hours on about 400,000 files. After it finished scanning it sat there all night not moving.
After working for hours on 4000,000 files/images, I'd want to sit still all night, too!:). I found a complete machine robot helped a lot. In any case, I hope you worked trough you stack of files well.
Hi,
When the results from a scan show - [Total: xxx, skipped: 2] what does it mean that photos are "skipped"? Is there a way to know which photos were skipped? Thanks.
HI - I added the plugin, but I just can't figure out how to use it. It's loaded and enabled, but I don't know how to find the duplicates. It's not listed in the plug-in extras. Any help would be appreciated. I imported about 10k duplicates by accident.
Hi Kirk, are you using Windows or Mac? The Mac installer does not work correctly at the moment, I have to fix it. The manual installation works. You don't have to move the plug-in to a specific folder, just go to File > Plug-in Manager in the menu, click on the Add button in the lower left corner and select teekesselchen.lrplugin. Click on Done and your are done.
Take a look at step 2 in the tutorial for using it: http://www.bungenstock.de/t...
You just have to to to the folder with all duplicates.
I found it. Thanks for getting bak to me!
I realize the software hasn't been updated since 2014, but is there any way for it to "Prefer by Date"? I have many duplicates that I'd like to keep the original "master" file from the date it was taken, and mark the duplicate as newer copies of the old one. It tends to flag the original as the duplicate and leave the actual duplicate clean.
Maybe the author would agree to open source his plugin, allowing other people to improve it?
Plugin is open sourced here: https://github.com/fuxs/tee.... I've made a few changes on my repo: https://github.com/mirstan/...
First off, I think It's very inconvenient having to sign up for a Disqus account just to get in touch with the developer. What's wrong with the good old e-mail?
Anyways, I have a problem with the latest version (v1.8) with Lightroom Classic CC 7.4 on macOS 10.13.5. The plugin runs fine and finds duplicates, in my case 17 of them. However the smart collection it has created still says 0 even after I run the plugin several times. What is causing this? What happened to the 17 duplicates it keeps on saying it found?
You could use other accounts like Facebook, Twitter, Google, etc. This format has many advantages: Questions and solutions are public, other users can help and I don't want to publish my email address.
Anyhow, I am running the exact configuration and cannot reproduce your issue. First: all duplicates are marked with a keyword, usually Duplicate if you haven't change it. You could build the smart collection on your own. Just use the keyword as criteria. On the right hand side in Lightroom you can see a list of all used keywords. In your case the counter should show 17 for the keyword Duplicate. If it is 0 then the smart collection cannot work.
Hi Michael,
I'm using LR Clasic CC and it has no Plugin Folder in~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Lightroom/Plugins/.
the LR Plugins folder is no longer in a User Library but is in
System Library/Application Support/Adobe/Plugins
which has two subfolders, CC and CS5.
Installing your plugin directily in
Library/Application Support/Adobe/Lightroom/
Library/Application Support/Adobe/Lightroom/Plugin
does not work.
The other Lightroom plugins are in Applications/Lightroom Classic CC folder/Lightroom Classic CC app/Contents/Plugins.
Installing it there does not work either.
I look forward to using your plugin and hope you can help me install it where it can work.
Best regards,
Bill in California
Michael,
I solved my installation problem by ignoring where your plugin might go and saved it to Applications and let LR's Plugin Manager install it. It now works as advertised but is not discovering known duplicates so I am working with the Marks to see what I can do. Can you say a few yords about
what you intended by using the words "abuse" and "prefer" in the context of a search? Thank you, Bill
Downloading and installing the software went perfectly! I ran through a couple test tries for finding duplicates and ran into some issues. I am mainly running through JPG and CR2 files from Canon camera. When I do not use exiftool, the program marks quick succession pictures as duplicates. When I turn on exiftool and use these settings:
-SequenceNumber -SubSecTime -SpecialMode -MetaDataDate -FileNumber -SubSecDateTimeOriginal -ThumbnailLength -ImageNumber(source: https://github.com/fuxs/tee...
It still marks the photos as 1 duplicate (testing with 2 photos). When I check the exif data manually with exiftool in terminal it shows

Any thoughts on what I am doing wrong?
I’ve purchased your Lightroom plug-in to find duplicates in my catalog and have found a limitation that is probably fixable. My current run showed 6,476 duplicate suspects in a catalog of about 35,000 photos. This is probably not correct.
If the plug-in had the ability to compare partial filenames it would cut this number down drastically and probably give me a more accurate selection.
Example: files PZ1000387.jpg and PZ1000387-2.jpg are probably duplicates. If I could compare the first 8 characters it
would be easy to find this situations and these are common in my photo collection. An even better solution would be to allow the comparison of the first “n” characters when “n” is specified by the user.
Also, in selecting which files to tag for removal it would be helpful to limit such tagging to files that have not been edited, files that are not in collections, and/or files not tagged with keywords or other tags. This would reduce the probably of deleting a file that should be kept.
If these capabilities are already in the product please let me know how to find them, if not please consider adding them.

I keep running into this crash when I run it on Mac OS Mojave 10.14.3 Lightroom cc 8.2
I am using version 1.8 of your difteare
Windows 7 zpro
LaCie RAID external drive
Lightroom Catalog on main C drive
No matter what I select in a folder, I get no duplicates usually, but sometimes all.
I am looking at a folder which has 781 photos, some obvious duplicates.
I want to delete LR duplicates but can't.
What do I do?
Hi Michael, Tried to load this LRplugin v1.8.0.1 into LR Classic v8.3 on iMAC OS 10.12.6 and had no success. Is there any way this is possible or is it incompatible ?
Tried putting it
1. in my own directory
2. in ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Lightroom/Plugins/ (had to create)
3. in ~/Application/Adobe Lightroom Classic/Adobe Lightroom Classic.app/Content/Plugins/ (with other existing LRpugins used)
Could add plugin to Plugin Manager ok, and restart , but did not appear in Extras with other plugins , for any of the above trials loaded. Nothing appears in HELP>PLUGIN EXTRAS
Any ideas why ?
Thanks for what looks like a very useful app.
Peter
For me, 'Mark duplicates as rejected' is grayed out. How do i fix this?
June 2019 - HI from San Diego. I'm trying to install this wonderful plugin into Lightroom 8.3.1 and having all sorts of trouble. See photo below. It appears that the plugin downloaded correctly and into the correct folder (as so directed by Laura Shoe's direction) The plugin appears to be enabled HOWEVER it does not show up in my list of published services. Any suggestions? I've tried to install and uninstall a few different times, with different browsers... Id https://uploads.disquscdn.c... eas? I'm excited to try it.
I just installed on my Windows 10 PC and have been using it for a couple of hours. The Plug-in does NOT show up in Publish Services. You go to Library/Plug-in extras and click on Find Duplicates (after selecting the photos you want it to check). Working great for me so far.
Thank you, Michael - great program. Could the option to prefer HEIC also be added?
Is Teekesselchen supported on Lightroom CC ( Not classic) Searched for where Plug-in manager is located but can't get an answer.

Hello,
I've just installed your LR plugin for finding dplicates. When I run it, I get an internal error message. I'm attaching a screen shot of the error message. Thanks for your help. Ygal Leibu
I've used this software without issue. I tried it on a client's computer and returned the following error.
The error says attempt to preform arithmetic on field "width" a nil value. and stops.
I ran with the default settings, as I have in the past. I would really like to help my client.
Thanks,

MacPowerBook Pro 2019 OS-Mojave - Software installs flawless but no plugin can be found anywhere. What would be the cure?
Beautiful software! Does its job with little fuss. Saved my hide in the first 3 days of use. Laura Shoe's webinar told me about you, & I downloaded it on the strength of her endorsement (macOS10.15 Catalina was not sure about your site).
I did find that after importing 18,000+ images to a 100,000 library using LightRoom CC, duplicate finding was _very_ slow. Restarted the whole machine & then it went properly soon.
Is this V.1.8 a 64 bit programme? Apparently it won't install on my Macmini with Catalina
The installer is not signed. Either you open the system preferences (after the error dialog) on your Mac and go to security to allow the execution (it will warn you), or you use the ZIP package and follow the described steps.
I would suggest a 'prefer by root folder'. This would allow one to organize all 'official' version of picures underneath a root folder and consider all files outside as potential duplicated.
I've got many duplicates pictures with different kind of names (for example, master pictures is P102345.RAW, duplicates are P102345-2.RAW or P102345-3.RAW). I put KeyWord on the picture but KeyWord are not always on the master pictures : I can find randomly KeyWord on the master pictures but sometimes on duplicates pictures. It's always different considering the pictures ! How can I find the duplicates pictures that are NOT containing Keywords, in order to delete them ? Thanks in advance for your answer :)
I am trying to install on MacBook Pro running 10.15.7. The computer would not allow the standard install so I tried the manual install and cannot find the "OS X: ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Lightroom/Plugins/" for LrC
1. Will the duplicate finder work on OS 10.15.7?
2. How best to install it?
Thank you in advance.
Don't use the OS X installer, download the zip file, unzip it, then move it to "/Applications/Adobe Lightroom Classic/Adobe Lightroom Classic.app/Contents/Plugins", then open Lightroom, you will have it. And it works in 11.0.1, so should work in 10.15.7
Thank you - it worked.
Hello. My photo files are a mess and I hope to use your software to fix that. I've downloaded the mac version of the files and attemted to follow the instructions. Problem is, i can't find a "Plugin Manager" anywhere. When I tried to do the manual approach, if found that my system filing system under Adobe/Lightroom has no Plugin folder. Perhaps this software isn't meant to be used with Lightroom CC version 3.4. Can you advise?
Hi, just create a folder of your choice and move the plugin file teekesselchen.lrplugin to it. Open the Plug-in manager as described, push the Add button and browse to your custom location.
Thanks a lot for your contribution. New release is now available
A new version is available fixing this issue:

I have lots of dupes, hoping this tool could help. But I run it on a subset and it seems to find some photos that are not dupes to be dupes? So not sure I can trust it.
https://uploads.disquscdn.c...
In my duplicates collection, the 1st photo looks correctly handled. 4 copies, one of the 5 stars is not flagged for deletion but the others are. But the 5th photo seems to be unique. No duplicate shown. It's also 5 stars. But it's flagged for deletion. Any idea why? Thanks.
teekesselchen worked wonderfully in Lightroom Classic 13.x, then I upgraded to the latest iMac & 14.0 about the same time. Then I added a huge (for me) number of files. Now, even with teekesselchen 1.9.0.1, it is simply not finding duplicates -- even ones I can see on screen are duplicates. Sometimes with the same file name & date/time. Can I make teekesselchen more likely to flag a dup? How?
